Will Korg M3 be mLAN compatible?
I noticed the Korg M3 has optional Firewire interfaces to "daisy chain" - since the Triton had the mLAN option, does anyone know if mLAN integration will be possible for the M3 (as it will in the Yamaha XS series)?

The better question is whether the firewire board uses the DICE II chips. If so, it would be theoretically possible.

Hi,

I'm asking the same question in Karmalab Forums. Assumably Stephen Kay or somebody else will be able to answer to this sooner or later.

How to make Firewire instruments mLAN-compatible?
Hello,

I'd be quite interested to hear from Yamaha e.g., if there are any thoughts how to connect a general Firewire instrument to mLAN? Please, check the link above. I.e., are there any possibilities at some point to get a Firewire to mLAN adaptation? Wouldn't this not be a good idea in order to extend the connectivity to 01x !

And, how would you now recommend Korg M3, for example, to be connected to the 01x?

Sincere thanks,
Tiitu.

Re: How to make Firewire instruments mLAN-compatible?
I read below that Korg Triton Rack can be equipped with an mLAN board compatible to mLAN A. Now, my question is: Does this also work with the current mLAN in Windows XP?!?

Please, can you tell me any experiences wth Korg Triton Rack connected to Yamaha mLAN?

This was told about the Triton Rack mLAN option elsewhere, but may be important:

"Note: This option is compatible with the mLAN A specification, and only currently for Macintosh OS9., (???)

The EXB-mLAN is an option board for connecting the TRITON STUDIO or TRITON Rack to an mLAN system. Other mLAN-compatible electronic musical instruments and computers can be connected easily using a IEEE 1394 cable, allowing high-volume transmission and reception of audio and MIDI data ( 48kHz sampling Frequency audio data can be transmitted and received via TRITON-Rack's 2 IN 6 OUT) --- a great convenience when using recording software on your computer. Included software allows the connection status of connected devices to be flexibly programmed from your computer, and OMS/ASIO drivers for Macintosh OS9 are also included. EXB-mLAN specifications • Data transmission rate: 200 Mbps • Transmitted data: digital audio data = 8 in / 8 out (6 out available for TRITON-Rack), MIDI data = 16 channels x 1 port • Connectors: mLAN (IEEE 1394) x 3 ports, serial x 1 port • Dimensions: 200 (W) x 86 (D) x34 (H) mm / 7.87”(W) x3.39”(D) x1.34”(H) • Weight: 430 g / 15.18oz. • Included items: application CD-ROM (for Macintosh OS9), IEEE 1394 cable (4.5 m) x 1

What is mLAN? mLAN is a communication standard that uses an audio and music data transmission protocol in conjunction with IEEE 1394 (a versatile interface that encompasses computers, musical instruments, and digital AV equipment of the future), allowing high-quality audio and MIDI to be simultaneously transmitted and received over a single cable. A maximum of approximately 100 channels of audio data or 256 ports of MIDI data (16 channels x 256 ports) can be transmitted and received (at a 200 Mbps transmission rate). mLAN is incredibly flexible, allowing up to 63 devices to be daisy-chained, and even letting you change the input/output connections between devices without reconnecting cables. From studio to stage, mLAN allows sophisticated and trouble-free setups."
